Bahia (ship)
From GenWiki
The S. S. Bahia was built in Germany in 1898 as a passenger-cargo ship of the Hamburg-South America line. During World War I, when the high seas became unsafe for German merchant ships, the S. S. Bahia found safer harbor in Uruguay, South America. In 1918, The ship was renamed as the S.S. Paysandu and transferred to United States ownership. Commissioned as the U.S.S. Paysandu(ID # 3880), she was used to transport American servicemen home from Europe. After the war, the U.S.S.
