- Introductory Remarks:
In Bavaria, most, but not all all of the original catholic church records are kept in the respective Diocesan Archives. You can read them on microfiche in the Diocese Archive, with two exceptions: In Augsburg, they are on microfilm instead of microfiche, in Passau, there was a digitalization program instead, which is not yet completed, and you will have to read the original records instead. For the actual state of the digitalization program see: Bistum_Passau/Historische_Datenbank
Only few parishes have ordered copies of the microfiche of their records, so in these few cases, they can be alternatively read in the parish as well. Therefore, most parishes won't be able to answer genealogical enquiries.
Please note: The Family History Libraries (FHL) of the Church of the Latter Days' Saints (LDS, Mormons) keep only records of the bishopric Augsburg, not of the other six Bavarian bishoprics. These can be researched in Bavaria only.
