[edit] Personal Civil Records Register
Civil Status (predecessor of the civil registrar) In 1811, one year after being a part of the French Empire, Bremen started registering civil records and this was maintained when the French occupation ended in 1813.
In parts, these records are more detailed than the parish registers. The registers for the city and the suburbs are complete from 1811-75. Alphabetic name registers exist for each parish; BUT, there are NO civil records for the villages that came into Bremen’s possession in 1939!
