[edit] Holding Libraries for Germans to America: Lists of Passengers Arriving at U.S. Ports 1850-1897, 1840s
Series edited by Ira A. Glazier and P. William Filby.
This list was compiled with the assistance of participants in soc.genealogy.german, especially Carol Nahrwold of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, who sorted out listings from OCLC and identified the libraries from their codes. Unfortunately it is not possible to determine from OCLC whether a particular library holds a complete set, just that they have a listing for Germans to America in their catalog. Where details of holdings have been obtained, from either online public access catalogs or third parties, these have been indicated by volume number ranges or the word complete at the end of the entry. Some libraries have the Broderbund CDs, listed here as volumes 355 and 356. Volumes in series II, which covers the 1840s, are indicated in this listing by adding 100 to the volume number (i.e., 101 means series II volume 1). A plus sign indicates additional volumes are held but no volume numbers were known. A question mark indicates the holdings information, even the existence of the holdings, is questionable. Some of the holdings information is fragmentary or out of date. No guarantee of correctness is implied.
Note: These series can be found in many large research and genealogical libraries and should be consulted there. These volumes are not held by the contributors of this listing, nor are they available anywhere on the internet. Please consult also the accompanying [GermansToAmerica.html list] of volumes and dates.
See also this general-purpose listing of libraries.
