Help:German characters
From GenWiki
You can write the German characters (called "Umlaute") by
holding down the Alt key and pressing the numbers mentioned
below on the numerical keyboard on the right at the same
time.
(the numbers above the letters "q w e ... i o p" do not work
in this case!):

This way you do not have to copy and paste.
