The name refers to something bright. The alternative name Jonell Kindschen refers to hard physical work.

in 1736 Janehl Kindtschen belonged to Schultz Biethellis Creyß to the administration of Heydekrug, County Memel [6]
Till 1911 an independant municipality[7]
on 24.5.1911 united with the rural municipality Heydekrug [8]
in 1913 Szibben and Heydekrug were united to the municipality Heydekrug [9].
